The initial assessment of a perceived unconscious player would be to check for signs of life. This would initially be with a challenge response, asking the player whether they can hear and whether they are making any signs of life. If those are absent, then it would be checking for any breathing, and this would be done with the simple method of placing the cheek near to the face. This allows for any sensation of the breath. Looking for rise and fall of the chest and palpation of a carotid pulse. This should ideally be done for 10 seconds. 9, 10. If no signs of life are present, then it would be important to call for help and then begin with chest compressions. Hopefully, if there are signs of life from the player, the importance would be then to wait for assistance to be able to effectively remove the equipment safely and to allow further assessment of the player to occur.
